Coil arrives at Saratoga on a van ride from Monmouth Park for the Grade 1, $1 million Travers Stakes

The Bob Baffert trained 3-year-old Coil, fresh out of Haskell Invitational win, arrives at Bob Baffert’s barn at Saratoga for the all important Grade 1, $1 million Travers Stakes.
Coil arrived at Saratoga on Tuesday morning, 2nd August, at 10:30 am.
The son of Point Given is expected to do well in his next predicament towards the 3-year-old division honours or possibly the Horse of the Year honour.
The travel from Monmouth Park did not show it’s rigors as the colt easily settled in and walked for about 20 minutes before he got set up into his stall.
The Grade 1, $1 million Haskell Invitational winning colt was joined in by the beaten favourite Irrefutable in the Teddy Drone Stakes, from Monmouth Park.
“He looks good to me,” said trainer John Terranova, husband of Baffert’s New York assistant, Tonja Terranova.
The three-year-colt Coil has impressed everyone after his stellar performance in the Haskell, where he changed his tactics altogether from a pace setter to a late closer.
He definitely is the main contender now for the 27 August Travers Stakes, as he is considered to be the rising stars of the 3yr old division.
The Haskell late closer, pressed onwards and put away the Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford in style, as he nailed the rest of the field including the Kelly Breen duo that were among the talk before the race.
The $1 million Haskell Invitational most certainly catapult the Bob Baffert colt into stardom in an instance, he would certainly be expected to conjure up a similar performance in the Travers Stakes.
“The Travers is a strong possibility if I like what I see these next couple of weeks,” Baffert said on Monday. “That distance should not be a problem for him with his new running style.”
His sire, Point Given, had an awesome 3-year career with Bob Baffert, as he went on to win the Belmont Stakes, Haskell Invitational and then the Travers Stakes, ultimately declared as the Horse of the Year.
Coil would aim to duplicate the performance, even though he has not run a single race of the Triple Crown, but still posed to be among the main contenders for 2011, Horse of the Year.
