Coin collecting?

I was looking at coin values and i noticed that depending on the coin its usually worth more if its made in San Fransico.Does anyone know why this is?

  2. Usually the San Francisco mint made less then the other mints. So S mint marked coins are scarcer. This is not always true, for some issues of the Denver mint are scarce also. I won't get into the New Orleans mint or Carson City, for they were closed CC-1893 & O-1909. Collectors also have this thing about the Granite Lady (San Francisco mint)

  3. Actually...the mint marks are important...but CC Carson City is the most desirable mint mark. As for "S" mark...less coins are usually minted in San Francisco...look at the total amount of coins struck and usually San Fran is much less then "P" Philadelphia and "D" Denver. Tagger
