when i was about 11, i hated my dance teacher. she was a really mean, immature person. she was especially cruel to me. one day, i took this ugly, old doll i had and rubbed it with this dance trophy i had won. i stuck a pin in her head and her knee. the next day, she had a terrible sinus infection.. no problems with her knee though. do you think this was a coincidence? or maybe it really worked? i believe it really did. what do you think?

  1. Purely coincidence.

Magic isn't real in any literal way.

Whether you are talking about spells, prayers, miracles or otherwise, they only come true if they were going to come true whether or not you had cast the spell, said the prayer or whatever.

Lots of people convince themselves that magic is real because they ask for things that might already happen anyway. If it coincidentally happens the way they asked, then the person's belief in magic is reinforced. If it doesn't come true then the person imagines that they must have done something wrong, not been worthy, etc. (See link)

If you want to prove to yourself that magic doesn't work, then just try to ask for something that wouldn't ever happen on its own. It doesn't even have to be something hard like flying or killing somebody. Just try to do something simple like make your hair change color on its own or make someone pee their pants in a class or at work. It won't happen, because it wouldn't ever happen.

  2. Do you practice voodoo?

  3. Coincidence. The knee didn't have trouble and i think a sinus infection and a pin in the head feel different.
