Colby Lewis becomes the focal point of attention as Rangers head to Busch Stadium for Game 6
The Texas Rangers managed a 4 – 2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, on Monday, October 24. The victory from Game 5 of the World Series ensures that the team now has the chance to clinch the ultimate title in the Major
League Baseball in Game 6. With potentially two games left to be played at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Colby Lewis will be heading to the venue for the next game as a harbinger of victory for the Rangers club.
There is a lot of pressure on the club and many experts believe the eyes are now on Lewis as the Cards work to avoid a loss in Game 6, pushing the encounter for a tie breaking Game 7. They’re struggle for a tiebreaking win in Game 6 will be met with much
opposition from starter Lewis as he looks firm to put his best form on the mound.
For a player who is 38 – 38 with a 4.99 earning runs average from the regular season outings, there would not be much to expect from the star in the playoffs. However that is far from reality. Lewis is 4 – 1 with a 2.22 earning runs average in the last seven
postseason outings and he has a good record away from home to make him a great candidate for the Game 6 win for the Rangers.
"I think that when he gets in the postseason, he gets really focused," Texas CEO Nolan Ryan said. "I think he's extremely prepared and knows what he wants to do, and he sticks to his game plan. I know Colby well enough now [that] when he makes a pitch and
he doesn't get it, I can see it. I can read it through his body language, but he does not let that carry over to the next pitch."
He was 9 – 5 away from home in 2011, with an earning runs average of 3.43. Compared to his home record of 5 – 5 with an earning runs average of 5.54, he is truly a figure to be wary of. There is a reason why he has been this good in the playoffs and he explained
it briefly.
"You can't really worry about your what ifs or anything like that," he said. "You just focus on the one pitch that you have at hand and do it."
The Rangers now need one more game to clinch the World Series title and there is a lot of hope behind Colby Lewis to get the job done. For the Cards, this could not be more of a better opportunity to prove their mettle against a strong club. The only question
now remains on how well Lewis can contain the opposition.
