Colby Lewis goes down badly as Los Angeles Angels dent Texas Rangers 15-4
Baseball in Arlington did not look favourable for the home fans that had made their way to the Rangers Ballpark to see the Texas Rangers take on the travelling Los Angeles Angels.
The supporters were treated to a shameful display of athleticism from the Texans, as they crumbled in front of the steaming Halos. Colby Lewis, who pitched for the Rangers was partly to blame for the loss.
The ace, who was good last season, was not able to pick up his second win as he walked out of the fixture with a disheartening loss and an earning runs average of 5.82. The ball thrower allowed three walks, four runs and five hits in a span of just five
innings.
Mark Trumbo stepped up to Lewis in the game, hitting him for an RBI single and a two run homer in the fourth.
The Angels did their part as all of their hitters supported the Angels’ pitcher Matt Palmer.
"They were all over the bases all night", Rangers manager, Ron Washington, said "Once we didn't do anything in the fourth, it went downhill from there".
Lewis on the other hand, blamed his fastball location as the leading problem.
“I felt great", Lewis said. "The big thing was my fastball was up in the zone. My other pitches were working. I felt my fastball was there and then it would go away. It felt I was fighting all night to get the ball down in the zone".
With the Rangers 3–1 down at the end of the fourth inning, Lewis had the chance to stabilize the situation but he gave up a home run to Maicer Izturis in the top fifth. That spelled failure for the Texan pitcher.
"I felt the off-speed stuff was there but I couldn't get the ball down with the fastball", Lewis said.
At the end, Lewis had nothing more to talk about than his weak command on the fastball.
"I was trying to throw a fastball down and away and it was middle up", Lewis said.
Many may see his paternity leave as the reason for his lack of focus on the game. He took ten days off before returning on April 18, 2011. That may have been his reason for sulking. Many will hope he can get back into gear as the season is long and testing.
