Colby Lewis picks up a disappointing loss as Texas Rangers look to play well in Game 4
The Texas Rangers lost 5 – 2 in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series on Tuesday, October 11, against the Detroit Tigers at the Comerica Park in Detroit. The loss was earned, courtesy three homers from the Tigers’ hitters. Two went against Colby Lewis while Koji Uehara picked the last homer off Miguel Cabrera’s bat.
Lewis was expected to win the encounter when experts looked back at his postseason record. With no loss in the two postseason campaigns, the hurler was a comfortable pick for the experts. He went 4 – 0 in last five post season appearances and that weighed heavily on him, prior to the game. His recent outing however did not go as planned for the Texans.
Lewis conceded four runs off eight hits in 5.2 innings of pitching. Two of those runs came in the form of homers from Victor Martinez and Jhonny Peralta. He now stands on 3.86 in earning runs average in the playoffs.
"It was one of those nights where I felt really good," Lewis said. "Sometimes you get results and sometimes you don't. My curveball was spotty, but I threw some good ones. My changeup was there. I felt all my pitches were working well. Sometimes you get results and sometimes you don't."
The Rangers were unable to capitalize with the bat as well, while Lewis tried his best to hold on to the game. Doug Fister did well for the Tigers as he closed the night off with 7.1 innings of pitching, allowing just two runs off seven hits.
"Colby kept us in the ballgame," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "It was Fister that did the job out there tonight."
Whatever the case may be, the Rangers are now hoping they can do better in the coming game as Matt Harrison will take the mound in Game 4. Nelson Cruz however reflected on the team’s disappointment at the end of the recent game.
"Every loss is disappointing," Cruz said. "We expect to win every game, but it doesn't work like that. They're a good team. We'll come back tomorrow."
The Rangers will have a chance to go 3 – 1 on Wednesday when they meet the Tigers again at Comerica Park.
