Colby Rasmus helps Toronto Blue Jays overpower Chicago White Sox 11-9 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays finally managed to salvage some of their pride as they prevailed 11-9 in a high scoring thriller against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, July 8 in the finale of their three match series of the
2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Credit must be given to John Farrell and company for sticking to their task on Sunday afternoon. Handling their nerves brilliantly, the Blue Jays fought hard right to the end to avoid a humiliating series sweep.
Colby Rasmus gave his team momentum as he homered to left-centre in the first inning. Edwin Encarnacion also made his presence felt with a two run home-run to centre in the first inning that made the score 4-0 in Blue Jays’ favour.
Alex Rios brought the White Sox back in to the contest as he homered to left in the first inning. Kelly Johnson and Jeff Mathis hit two of four Toronto’s home-runs as the White Sox started to feel the heat.
"We had a very good offensive day. High number of walks," manager John Farrell said in a post game interview. "First inning we put together, both Colby, who continues to swing the bat well, Eddie with another big home run for us. We needed every run we could
put on the board the way this turned out."
Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Brett Cecil had a tough time on the mound as he allowed six hits and seven runs in just over four innings. Relief pitcher Jason Frasor was awarded with the win after he pitched a perfect inning, striking-out two.
White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Axelrod had one of his worst outings of this season as he gave up seven runs in just three innings.
"You just got to get ground balls. I got behind in some counts and grooved some balls over the plate. And that's what good hitters do," Axelrod said.
Chicago had the better of their opponents in both the first two games and they were looking to continue their excellent form in the finale to consolidate their position at the top of American League Central Division standings.
