Colby Rasmus involved in batting practice, scheduled to join Minor League soon - MLB News
The last time Colby Rasmus played in the outfield, was back in August 23, 2011. Fortunately, news concerning the centre-fielder has come out and it appears the Toronto Blue Jays player has taken live batting practice. There is also word that he will be joining
Minor League teams in the playoffs for a rehabilitation regimen. The news came out of Toronto on September 8.
Rasmus was having a mediocre season before he sustained a right wrist injury during a game against the Kansas City Royals. The former Seattle ballplayer crashed into the outfield wall which led him off the field with the injury. Luckily, the 25-year-old
star does not require surgery and his taken up live batting practice.
Rasmus was practicing in the nets, earlier in the week but Thursday marked the first day of facing live hitters. The sessions are scheduled to continue for the next three days, after which he will be shipped off to the Minor League for playoffs and rehabilitation.
Toronto Blue Jays' manager, John Farrell, is missing one of his key players but he wants to have the fielder in full strength when he comes back to the team.
"Any time we've got a guy that is transitioning back to on-field activity, we've got to go through some steps," Farrell said. "To get him some at-bats in a rehab setting would be ideal."
Rasmus has played 117 games, so far, this season. He has gone 102-for-426 and his batting average has been .239. He has scored 72 runs and has availed 52 RBIs. His On-Base plus Slugging percentage is .730.
Farrell thinks the move to the Minor League can help his player get back to strength and form.
"The way he is feeling physically in the wrist, he feels like the strength is there. Whether it's a couple of games, just to see some live pitching again before getting back into the lineup here, would be very helpful for him."
The Blue Jays will be glad to see Rasmus in the line up again. His role on the field can boost the team in wins before the close of the regular season.
