Question:

Cold Water Problem in Shower?

Hi all! I have a one nozzle shower, the kind that turns counter-clockwise and gets hotter the more you turn to the left. My problem is that I can only move the nozzle about one-eighth turn before the water starts getting hot, which of course means that I have a very weak flow of cold water. I checked the threads on the inside of nozzle, as well as on the turn off valve stem, and nothing seems to be stripped. Any ideas on where to go from here? Thanks in advance!

  1. Most shower valves have a replaceable cartridge available, with new seats and springs also . Most chain stores have the parts.

  2. The type u have is a pre-set non- adjustable mixer.  Because the plumber preset the H/C water.  U need to make the adjustment at the handle.  All u can do is u want more H or more C.  U make the adjustment at the k**b handle inside the cover.  after u take handle out.  U see plastic gears and u make the adjustment by taking it out and move it more left or right.

  3. a few questions are in need here.

did the shower valve ever work correctly before?

    do you know the brand?

chances are it just needs to be rebuilt.  you will need to know the brand so you can purchase the proper parts.  take the k**b off first and have the brand identified by your local plumbing supply store.

  4. I had the same problem.  My maint. man had to order a new part.  The hole that controls the flow was  too large and wasn't allowing the hot water to come through.

  5. If your water supply is from community system, the temp of the water in summer is much hotter coming in your house. If it gets real hot in your area as it does here, almost no hot water is required for a shower.

If this is your case, the hot does not have to overcome the cold water (75 degrees and above) as it may be very warm on the cold side.
