Question:

Cold air or short ram for jetta 2.0

I have no intentions of making any heavy mods at this moment, perhaps in the future.

However, I want my car to run as best as it can with minor mods.

that puts turbos out of the question....

Ive read on the web that short-rams are better for turbo charged cars, since the air is going to be cooled by the intercooler anyhow. Better at low-end torque as well.

and that the cold air is better for the mid-range of the rpm, and provides cooler air because of the filter and air being away from the heat of the engine.

I currently have a short-ram, but of course its not a turbo-charged car, i prefer doing a good 0-60 than high end speeds...

so would it be better to stick with the short ram, or change to a cold air?

  2.    You know the differance is very minor, you would never be able to tell. I insalled a K&N cold air kit on my Yukon with claims of like a 8-10 hp gain, I couldnt tell any difference in the performance. I install cold air kits for my customers who bring them to me. I dont think they are a bad thing, but the claims of power gains is slightly overstated in my opinion. The cold air kit would in theory be the better choice because of the colder the air the more density per volume it has. Also usually the intakes are larger than the stock design but this is true of the short and cold air kits. So you get that advantage from both. As well as the air is coming in from a tube that is smoother and designed to give less resistance than stock. But even with all that said, I couldnt tell any differance in the performance, sometimes my customers tell me they feel the increase in power and sometimes they tell me it feels the same. I wouldnt spend anymore on it if I was you and just keep what you have.
