Cold equations question?

I have a test over the book Cold Equations and our teacher gave us a study guide and one of the questions were describe the term cold equations and describe the coldness in the story...... yeah the question is weird but help please

Something is cold when it lacks empathy, emotion.

There were certain equations governing what must happen in this science fiction story.

Think of it like having terminal cancer.  There is a certain progression as to what will happen.  You can't buy your way out of it, you can't charm your way out of it.  It doesn't matter if you're the nicest person in the world, or the most horrible.  Science sets the course of things.

Read the story.  It's pretty short, and would probably take you half an hour, maybe 10 minutes if you're a really fast reader.  There was also an Outer Limits episode based on this story, I believe, but they changed a few of the details.

I'm assuming that this is the story, "The Cold Equations."  If not, never mind.
