Not last sunday, but the one before that, I got a really bad sunburn which resulted in a HUGE cold sore. It came around tuesday-wednesday. Now its in scab formation, and looks like its healing well, but I have a party to go to on friday, and I was wondering if you guys that it would go away soon? I've been putting the liquid form of Campho-Phenique (spelling?) on it, along with occasionally Vitamin E oil, and Carmex. I just took some L-syine, but I haven't taken any before. If I continued with the tablets, will it go away faster? And also, should I stop putting ointment on it so that in can dry up? Please help.

  1.   Unfortunately, time is about the only thing that can help you here.  You can apply the topicameldsou mentioned, but I don't think they help much.  You can get a prescription cream from the doctor called Zovirax 5% ointment to have on hand for future break-outs.  It is an anti-viral, and does speed up healing a little bit.

  2. sounds like you are attacking it from all angles.

  3. If it's inside you mouth then forget all that complicated nonsense, just rinse your mouth with warm salt water two or three times a day.

  4. I have this too, it is herpes simplex.  You contracted it when you were young probably and it will cause you to have a breakout when you are stressed, when your immune system is low, when you get a sunburn.  I used to always get them after being in the sun.  My doctor gave me Valtrex to take when I have an outbreak, but you have to take it as soon as you feel one coming, my lip will usually itch or tingle.  If you miss that "window" then you will have to suffer for a week.  Using lipstick will make it worse because you contaminate your lipstick and then keep applying it to your lips.  Your doctor can also prescribe creams such as denavir or zovirax which are amazing.  Over the counter the only thing that really works is abreeva.  The rest of them just numb your lip or seal it, they don't actually help to heal it.

I hate the dam things, but since I have talked to my doctor, I rarely have to suffer one.

You need to try not to pick at it, it will go away the fastest that way.

Taking Lysine everyday will help prevent another outbreak and may help this one go away faster.

I've used neosporin before when I had an event to go to and it helped alot, but a few days later I broke out again.  It seemed like the neosporin sealed in the infection - and it just burst out again.

There is relief - see your doctor, don't use lipstick right now, and always wear chapstick with spf!
