Question:

Cold sores and snowboarding!! :<?

Does anyone else get cold sores after snowboarding and does anyone know anything to do to AVOID them when you go?

Btw, I already take lysine and will not take valtrex or any onther antiviral since the stuff made mine worse. Also, ice, toothpaste, and whatever else anyone can suggest does not work for me once I already have one. I want to know how to not get one.

Thanks!

  1. oh yeah, i have the worst chapped lips, and when i go snowboarding the cold air rushing in my face makes them red, irritated, swollen, and raw. i didn't wear anything this season over my face that would prevent the cold air from damaging my lips. so i would definitely wear a bandanna around your face or a face mask or a scarf or whatever you want to wear or whatever you think would work best. my lips got so bad that i had to go to the skin doctor and he gave me cream and i'm now taking valtrex. avoid l*****g your lips and keep a blistex chapstick handy and put it on when ur on the lift. hope this helped!

  2. umm, u probably got chapped lips lol!!! snowboarding has nothing to do with cold sores

  3. Cold sores are a viral infection, so unless you are in direct contact with someone else's cold sore while snowboarding, I'd say the two have nothng to do with each other. Once you get a cold sore, you are more prone to get one more often as the viral infection never actually leaves your system. But then they usually appear when you are feeling run down, or tired. They don't actually have anything to do with the cold air!

The only thing I can suggest (apart from antivirals like zovirex) is echinacea, a herb that builds your immune system up which is usually in tea or tablet form. Good luck and keep up with the snowboarding.

  4. Wear a bandana. You're getting them because your lips are getting too irritated from the elements.
