Cold water colourful fish without food

Question

were i work the fish had not been fed for 6days,,i dont no what they are but most are small and very colourful,,will they have been ok without any food for this long,,as i said they are cold water fish,,two of them are those black sucky things that stick to the side of the tank most of the time,,they are larger tham the others,,,thks in advance for any answers.

Well.......most fish can stay alive with out any food for acctually 3  to 5 days.

Why had they not been fed?

The black sucky things sound like catfish/plecos which are not cold water fish and the small colourful ones sound like tetra which are not cold water fish either.

Fast fish need feeding at least twice a day as they burn up energy fast.

If you can describe the fish a bit more I may be able to tell you what fish they are.

Most adult fish can go anywhere from a week to 2 weeks without being fed without any harmful effects.  More pet fish die from overfeeding than ever starve to death.  In a well established tank, they can usually go even longer, because despite not having any food put into the tank, there are sources of food in the water, in the form of algae and microscopic infusoria that the fish can eat.  The "sucky things" are probably eating algae that's growing on the tank walls and gravel and the surfaces of the decorations.  Still, it's probably a good idea to feed the fish a little bit at this point.

Fish food is cheap, buy some yourself and treat them every now and then. Thats the humain thing to do.

The fish are most likely goldfish or koi, possibly feeders.  These will eat plants if any are in the tank.  Same with the black sucky things.  Those may be plecos and are algae eaters, though not cold water fish.

Most fish can go for a week or two without food, don't think its a good idea though someone should feed them soon as some can last longer than others

and the sucky fish is defiantly a plecostomus

all these fish are tropical

or they are cold water white cloud mountain minnows

but the sucky fish needs a heater

they need feeding daily

edit: not all plecostomus are that colour some are all black
