I've just set up a new aqaurium and i'm going to leave it a couple of weeks before i get any fish! But i've already got one goldfish.. i think it's gonna die soon!! I'm not quite sure whether to start a collection of warm water fish or cold water fish!! Which are easier to look after? P.S i already have a heater so that's no problem! I have a 23 gallon fish tank (90 litres).. which are easier to look after and what species do they contain!

so my question is SHOULD I GET WARM WATER FISH O COLD WATER FISH AND WHICH ARE EASIER TO LOOK AFTER?

  1. cold water fish are easy to take care of but you don't find them interesting as tropical fish, get tropical fish there not that hard of taking care of.

  2. i have tropical fish for about 10yrs now, some good times and some bad times. mainly if you have a adiquite other words big filter (get a biological filter) right light and heater then your going good, dont forget things like water conditioner and keep an eye on the ph level, nitrate, nitrite & ammonia levels. im telling you this cause you will never be able to enjoy the amazing underworld that your have developed right there in front of you if you dont do things right. im not saying its too hard but if you can learn to keep the tank conditions perfect which you will, sounds harder than it really is, I guarantee you will be so proud of what you have done, you`ll even be watching it more than tv...

i guess what im saying is go warm water, more types of fish, better colours, more lively colourful plant life, you wont regret it..

  3. Tropical fish are more interesting then cold water fish although are more expensive.  If you go with cold then get 7 or 8 Cloud Mountain Minnows.  These are easy to look after and can also tolerate tropical temperatures if not too warm. These little fish school around the tank , males will show off in front of females which is interesting to watch.

If tropical then any tetras are good as with most with a group they will school around your tank which is better then having 1 or 2 butch fish just sitting there with a face like a robbers dog. I personally like rainbow fish.  You can get Dwarf Neon Blue Rainbows which won't get too big for your tank.  African Dwarf Frogs are also different and better then most cold water fish.  Hope this helps and good luck.

  4. get tropical fish they are easy to look after and there is a wide range of different 1s. if you decide to go tropical try buying a school of neon tetras, angle fish, silver sharks, silver dollar, guppies and some swordtails. they look really good togethor

  5. Cold water fishes might be better however there isn't really a big range for you to choose from. With warm water fishes, they have a wider range and are often easier to care for as the temperature of the water is kept at a certain range and is often maintained by the heater likewise with cold water fish, they might be able to tolerate big change in temperatures but they might not survive as long because of this. anyways hope this helps
