Cole Escovedo released from UFC due to straight losses – UFC News
The 30-year-old American mixed martial art (MMA) fighter, Cole Escovedo, has been released from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and the UFC officials have cited his consecutive defeats as the reason.
When Escovedo made his professional MMA debut against Terry Dull in 2011, he was unbeaten in seven straight fights. In April 2003 he faced his first ever defeat by the hands of Bao Quach. Prior to joining UFC he had a three-fight
losing streak from March 2006 to August 2006. Later, he lost two consecutive fights in July 2010 and in September of the same year.
Escovedo made his UFC debut in May 2011 against Brazilian MMA fighter, Renan Barao, at UFC 130, but could not secure a win. He later fought Japanese MMA fighter Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 135 in September 2011 and against compatriot
Alex Caceres at UFC on Fox, in November 2011 but could not win any of the two fights. Escovedo, a bantamweight division fighter, could not make a stance in the UFC and his poor run inside the UFC cage became the sole reason for his exit from the promotion.
On December 23, 2011, Escovedo announced his release from the UFC through social media. Later, UFC confirmed the news through their website. Once his release was finalized, Escovedo went on to express his thanks to the UFC
management for giving him the chance to fight in the UFC. He also thanked CEO of UFC, Dana White, for providing him with the opportunity to enter the UFC octagon ring. His gratitude also went to Sean Shelby, the matchmaker of the UFC.
Escovedo was also out of action from 2006 to 2009 due to his persistent illness. When he returned to the ring in May 2009, he fought in eleven bouts and lost five. His win/loss ratio in his career is acceptable with seventeen
fights and 9 losses, but the main concern for UFC officials were his straight losses in the UFC. From July 2010 to November 2011, he contested in six fights but only won a single fight which will compel him to rethink about his future steps in the world of
MMA.
