Cole Hamels’ brilliance leads Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-1 win against Miami Marlins-MLB Update

Starter Cole Hamels strikes-out eight as he helps Philadelphia Phillies beat Miami Marlins 4-1 at Marlins Park, Miami on September 30, 2012 in the last game of the three match series.
Phillies started off in a dominant fashion, putting three runs on the scoreboard right in the first inning.
As a result, their lead was enough that the weak offence of the Marlins found it extremely difficult to cut in to it.
It was no wonder that the Marlins struggled throughout the innings to bounce back and challenge the Phillies.
Although the Marlins struck seven hits in the game, they failed to make the most of them. Their base-runners did not see hits struck when they were needed by them in order to go aboard.
On the other hand, the Phillies were better on this front as their batters manipulated for hits when base-runners were in a position to score runs.
What helped the Phillies in earning the victory on Sunday was the solid innings thrown by their starter Hamels. He successfully escaped the situations where he was about to be roughed up. He completed seven innings and gave up just one run while yielding
five hits.
Other than the starter, relievers were also impressive. Jonathan Papelbon claimed his 38th save for the Phillies.
Hamels is happy with his performance so far.
He has been incredible on the mound, despite the fact his club languished at the bottom half of the National League East Division table for the most part of the season.
While commenting on his terrific numbers, Hamels feels that it is being too self-centred to speak about splendours that he put up in the season.
"I'm happy with the direction that I guess I'm going," Hamels said. "It's kind of a selfish way that you think about it, but I'm happy that I'm going to be on this team and I like all the possibilities that we have."
Phillies in the second half of the season have proven that they are a formidable opposition. Advancing from the lowest position to third spot on the table shows that they are far from what they appeared to be in the first half of the season.
Although they are out of contention, they have positives to take along while entering into the season next year.
