Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole was delighted to have scored against former club West Ham in the 2-3 victory at Upton Park last night.
The former Chelsea and Hammers player insists that the win over West Ham last night was perhaps one of the most important victories for Brendan Rodgers’ men as Liverpool move into the top half of the Premier League.
This marks Liverpool’s second successive victory in the Premier League, which makes it a total of 3 wins in 6 games for the Reds.
Liverpool went into the game three points behind West Ham in the league, but two goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Collins-c17687 own goal ensured a victory for the visitors. The game was always set up to be a tough contest, especially considering
West Ham’s dominant form at Upton Park.
The Hammers had recorded a famous victory over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 faced a tough task going into the game. The Hammers are known for their aggressive, physical and direct style of play, which lies in direct contrast to Liverpool’s attacking
and one-touch pass football mentality.
However, the Reds played a good game of football, and managed a much needed and hard fought victory. Manager Brendan Rodgers will be happy to see his team finally settle into his playing style and adapt to his attacking football philosophy.
Joe Cole, the scorer of Liverpool’s second goal, came on as a 27th minute substitute for the injured Jose Enrique, was delighted by the result. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
“It was very important for us. West Ham were three points above us, and we needed to keep doing the rights things. It was a great win – it’s always nice to come back to your old club. The most important thing was getting the win.”
“It’s a great group of young players here and we’ve got the right manager for them – they have done really well.”
Cole’s teammate http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonjo-Shelvey-c19081 was also in high spirits after the game, and was eager to claim the third goal, which appears to be a James Collins own goal on second viewing. The midfielder said:
“I’m going to claim it. The main thing was that we got the three points and we’ve got a few home games coming up now. We want to kick on.”
