Liverpool midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Cole-c18694, will ply his trade at Anfield this season, despite emerging in rumours of a possible transfer in January, some sources have learnt.
The English International made a return to the professional circuitry this month from a hamstring injury against West Ham United. He marked his comeback with a goal, helping the Reds claim a come-from-behind win at Upton Park.
However, he remains to be on the fringes of the squad, as his participation in the game owed much to the absence of the regular striker, Luis Suarez, due to suspension.
Cole enjoyed successful spells at Chelsea and West Ham United before making a switch to Liverpool in July 2010. A spate of injuries and his stuttering form forced the Reds to send him out on loan to Lille, where he went on to enjoy a decent one-year spell.
Upon his return, the 31-year old made manifest his intentions of proving himself at Anfield. Earlier, he reportedly refused to part ways with the Merseyside club, insisting that he won’t, at any cost, accept his stint at the club to be labelled as a failure.
“I don't want to leave http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Lille - I don't want people to be able to say that I haven't here,”
he said.
If some speculations are to be believed, Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 boss, Harry Redknapp, is currently monitoring the situation of the talented forward, and will enter in the transfer market to prize him away from Anfield in January.
The Reds boss, Brendan Rodgers, himself deems him as surplus to requirements, but is more than willing to give him an opportunity to prove himself. After all, the Ulsterman has so far given precedence to merit on reputation.
Rodgers is reported to have said, “If he's not going to play as often as he wants then he's no different to any player, really. Players are about game time and money. He's a good guy though - he's not any kind of problem.”
However, according to some sources, Rodgers is reluctant to let go of the forward in the near future, as he is already operating with limited options upfront. The manager was earlier made to call upon the players from the youth academy in order to bolster
his unit.
Furthermore, it seems that Cole has finally gotten into his stride. It means that Rodgers won’t have to go over the top to sign multiple strikers in the January window. His clinical finishing and inspirational presence at the frontline, which he displayed
at Chelsea and West Ham, would form a perfect makeshift offence alongside Luis Suarez before the Reds expand their squad next summer.
