Coleman shines as Chicago Cubs beat Colorado Rockies, 8-3: MLB Update
Chicago Cubs’ starter, Casey Coleman, allowed just one run on 4 hits and struck-out three batters as the Cubs defeated the Colorado Rockies by 8-3 at the Coors Field, Colorado, on 16 April. He suffered an injury in his right foot but recovered soon before
the game began.
After the game, Coleman said, “I could see how it's tough here. You get the rubbed-up balls and throw one pitch and they're all slick again. You have to make adjustments, but it's good to make it out of here alive and get that one under your belt.”
Coleman had a second start in this season as he replaced Randy Wells. He pitched 5 2/3 innings without any homer. He got a boost in the fifth inning when he had one-out single and attained third out on Starlin Castro's double. Coleman also posted a run after
the ground-out of Darwin Barney towards first baseman, Jason Giambi.
When Castro struck a home-run, there was excitement in the Cubs’ team as well as fans because of their five-run lead. Aramis Ramirez hit a run batted in (RBI) single.
The Cubs’ Manager, Mike Quade, had something different in his mind. He wanted to relieve Coleman till the announcement of the Rockies’ pinch-hitters, but it did not happen.
Speaking to reporters, Quade said, “He's got all the intangibles. He's not huge of stature, he doesn't light up the [radar] gun, but he does everything else to make himself a good pitcher that he needs to. He deserves a lot of credit and should take a lot
of pride in that.”
For the Cubs, Alfonso Soriano struck a home-run with solo RBI double to support Coleman. While Castro hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning and had 4 runs on 5 hits including two singles and one double.
Soriano made runs with two outs in the sixth inning against the Rockies’ starter, Jason Hammel, to give his team a 3-1 lead. It happened after the go-ahead single of Coleman in the fifth inning. For the Rockies, Troy Tulowitzki added a triple by hitting
a ball at the right wall of the field position. Chris Iannetta struck a two-run homer against John Grabow in the eighth inning.
