Colin Edwards of Monster Yamaha Tech3 in good form for Iveco Australian Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards is geared up to race at the 16th MotoGP event, the Iveco Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island on October 16, 2011.
Edwards said, “It is always a special feeling to be heading to Phillip Island because I've got a lot of good friends in Australia who always come out to support me. And the track is something really special and there's nothing else like it on the calendar.”
The Texan veteran has been strong at Phillip Island through his racing career. Edwards has scored decent results in eight outings out of nine races he had attempted at the venue. In the 2004 season, he finished the race lower than ninth position.
In the last two seasons, he has qualified for a fifth position on the grid. Now he is looking forward to score his consecutive fifth finish in top ten positions.
He added, “I fell in love with the track when I raced here years ago in World Superbikes and I still get that same buzz even now. It is super-fast, has lots of undulation and you get to push a MotoGP bike to its absolute limit at Phillip Island.”
The MotoGP rider commented on the weather conditions at the Australian track. He added that the weather is usually surprising. For this weekend, he expects to endure the same enjoyable yet tough racing conditions at Phillip Island.
However, Edwards is passionate to score the possible best results for his Tech3 squad. It will be his last season with Yamaha as he moves to Forward Racing for the 2012 MotoGP season.
During the last outing at Japan, he was able to complete the race in eighth place along with some tyre issues. After some tough race weekends, he was able step up in top ten slots and this time, he aims similar results.
Currently, he holds ninth position in the 2011 world championship points’ table with a four-point lead from Hiroshi Aoyama. Edwards’ teammate Cal Crutchlow is 13th in the championship.
