Colin Edwards of Monster Yamaha Tech3 might be visiting Indianapolis for the last time – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards is possibly visiting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the last time in MotoGP class.
The Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix is the 12th event on the 2011 MotoGP calendar.
Edwards’ contract with his Tech3 team is coming to an end, which leaves him unsure about his future in premier class. Though he has good terms with team boss Herve Poncharal but it is not sure whether the contract is extended or not.
Edwards said, “Racing at home in America for the second time in a few weeks is awesome and I'm really looking forward to this weekend. The build-up to the Indianapolis race is always pretty special because you've got the mystique and the history of the place
and I really like that part of it.”
The Texan MotoGP veteran said that the IMS has played a vital role in the progress of MotoGP class and hopes the American fans will see a good race day at Indy.
In Edwards’ opinion, the circuit is not demanding in any case. It is also not that technical to stress out the rider and the machine. The most exciting part is its newly laid tarmac will change the racing style on the circuit.
Before its pavement was completed in summer, the track was filled with bumps and holes. It minimised the usage of track and restricted the riders on a narrow race line. It also hampered the overtaking manoeuvres. After the completion of paving, MotoGP and
International Motorbike Federation (FIM) tested the new surface and were satisfied with the work.
Coming to Edwards’ performance in the season, he is giving consistently good race results. After his crash at Catalunya, he scored a podium at the Silverstone event.
Edwards said, “I'd like to be a further up the order and pushing inside the top six a little more, but the guys in front of me every week are all on factory bikes, so I think all of us inside the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team are giving the maximum to do the
best job we can.”
Now he ranks at ninth position in the world championship points table. He is also the only top ranked non-factory rider in the season.
