Colin Edwards says he never considered retirement despite a dismal 2012 show – MotoGP news
Although 2012 was career worst for Colin Edwards, still according to the 38-year-old Texan, he never considered retiring from MotoGP.
Throughout 2012 MotoGP season, Edwards kept struggling with the Suter-BMW he was riding for Forward Racing. He finished a disappointing 20th with only 27 championship points to his name. Riding under the CRT entry, Edwards’ best finish in any 2012 Grand
Prix was 11th at the San Marino and Rimini’s Coast Grand Prix.
Riding in the Portuguese Grand Prix, Edwards suffered a crash which left the rider with a broken left collarbone which forced him to miss the three consecutive rounds of the season. Edwards still continued the season rejoining in the Dutch TT, but was unable
to post any notable performance throughout the season. Even after a disappointing 2012, Edwards plan to continue his MotoGP career and to finish the 2 year contract that he signed with Forward Racing.
The Texan rider told Motorcyclenews.com, “I never really got to that point. We had issues with the bike but it worked in some places. If it was smooth and if we could get the electronics in the right time zone then it worked. But I never felt like going
home.”
In the 2013 season, Forward Racing has decided to change their bike from Suter-BMW to FTR-Kawasaki. Edwards seems quite pleased on the switch as he was always rightfully very critical of the Suter-BMW.
Talking about how he felt about Forward Racing’s switch from Suter-BMW to FTR-Kawasaki, Edwards said, “I’m excited. As bad as it sounds I was really happy to get off the Suter-BMW. It was going nowhere. FTR-Kawasaki works and feels comfortable.”
Edwards further added that the difficulty he was facing in riding the Suter-BMW forced him to take more risks in a single season than he had taken in his whole MotoGP career.
Hoping that he will get a better bike in 2013, Edwards said, “At the end of the day I love riding motorcycles and I’ve had to put up with what I’ve been riding this year to hopefully get on a better package.”
2013 will be Edwards' second year as a CRT rider. He expects the bike change that Forward Racing has made will bring a positive change and he will give better performance in the upcoming season.
