Colin Edwards talks about CRT 1000cc machines at Valencia – MotoGP news
The MotoGP veteran, Colin Edwards expressed his views about the new 1000cc CRT machine that he tested at the Jerez circuit in Spain.
It was private testing session conducted to assess the potential of the bike.
The Texas Tornado missed the season finale event after being crashed at the Malaysian Grand Prix that took the life of Marco Simoncelli. Edwards suffered from dislocated shoulder and torn ligaments that ripped off the muscles from his bone.
Edwards said, “Overall, it is better than I thought it would be, the potential is there. I think we are at about 65 percent right now.”
This was his first outing after the crash in Sepang. The American rider could not take part in the post race test held at Valencia.
He has joined the Forward Racing team for the 2012 MotoGP season, after departing from Yamaha Monster Tech3 squad.
Texas Tornado added, “The chassis is set up, but the main thing is the electronics and getting the whole package to come together. With the electronics, every time we make a little change and make it better, everything just gets a little smoother and easier.”
The new Claim Rule Team category will be included in the 2012 MotoGP season that will run a production based engine with the custom made chassis.
The CRT teams are welcomed in the premier class to reduce the cost of the MotoGP project. The factory teams have spent a lot fortune to run and achieve a master level in the competition.
This has caused the low budgeted teams to step out of the championship even Kawasaki stopped its operations in 2009.
He added that he felt the same while riding the Suter-BMW bike as he initially tested the Aprilia bike back in 2003.
He reckoned that the Suter-BMW bike has more torque than others and has a stronger basic engine. Remembering the Aprilia, it was the first bike with ride by wire and electronics.
With a lot of experience of 1000cc machines he knows the right path to achieve the goal of optimum performance for the premier class competition. He is highly focused to develop the machine for 2012 season.
