Colin Montgomerie commits to make his debut at the Avantha Masters
Colin Montgomerie has confirmed the http://www.enewsportal.com/ to make his debut at this year’s edition of the 1.8 million euro Avantha Masters, slated to start from March 14, 2013.
The event, which is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, European Tour and the Professional Golf Tour of India, will be played at the Jaypee Greens Golf Club, featuring some of the best players from different parts of the world.
Montgomerie is lauded as the most successful British golfer on the European tour, having won 31 titles, two of which came in Asia. Therefore, he is a great addition to the tournament this year.
Some of the other big names, who have confirmed their participation, include the three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner Thongchai Jaidee, in-form Gaganjeet Bhullar of India, three-time Asian Tour winner Scott Hend and Singaporean star Mardan Mamat.
Talking to the reporters, the legendary Montgomerie said that he always like to visit India and this time, it will be his pleasure to play against some the best young player in the world.
"India is unquestionably one of the world's biggest growth areas for golf so I'm really looking forward to teeing up in the Avantha Masters,” he said. “Having recently added a project in Goa to my golf course design portfolio, I hope to play my part in the development of the game in India”.
He also said that the people of India are very friendly and they enjoy the game of golf. Therefore, he is now expecting a huge crowd to visit the venue course during the tournament.
"Whenever I have visited this fascinating country in the past, I have always found the people to be both very friendly and enthusiastic about golf. Hopefully, the crowds will come along to support the tournament and show that golf in India is enjoying a real popularity boom”.
Local star Jeev Milkha Singh, in the meantime, is also upbeat about his performance in the tournament. Singh became Asian Tour number one in 2006 and 2008 and is lauded as one of the best golf players the Indian soil has ever produced.
