Colin Montgomerie eyes the U.S Open after a thriller in the qualifying round, he is back and he means business!
Colin Montgomerie has electrified the qualifiers to the U.S Open with his precision play and has become the strongest contender to win the U.S Open.
Walton Heath Golf club was the venue where the 48-year-old took the course by storm and performed exceptionally well.
Facing a course that is considered as a nightmare for golfers, Montgomerie played beautifully and seemed delighted with his form and play.
“The conditions are perfect, and luckily I managed to take advantage of them. I’ve probably got to shoot another 68 this afternoon to ensure I qualify. It’d be great to play another Major, but I can’t afford to get ahead of myself”.
“The highlight was my eagle on the third hole, where I drove the green. Nothing to do with the firm course – it was pure power,” said the Scottish golfer.
Montgomerie turned professional back in 1987 and started his career with all the right moves. He holds an impressive 40 professional wins to his name.
His magic at the European Tour is the best aspect of his entire career. He holds the record of being the 4th all time best European Tour winner. This record speaks highly of his talent as a dynamic golfer.
In 2005, he was honoured with the Order of the British Empire. This honour has been given to a few in the world of golf.
He is also a four-time European Tour Player of the Year. Europe has been his haven in terms of brilliance and consistent wins in golf.
He is also considered as the best golfer in the world who has never won a major championship in his entire career.
This aspect of his career has been surprising and confusing, as his talent and experience with the game of golf has been magnificent. Yet, for some odd reason his performance in the major championships has been disappointing.
Currently, he seems happy and satisfied and looks forward to the U.S Open with his form.
He remains a strong contender for the U.S Open and may be included in the prestigious competition with his performance in the qualifiers.
