Colin Montgomerie honoured with Sports Personality Coach of the Year award
The Ryder Cup star and ace European golfer, Colin Montgomerie has been honoured with the Sports Personality Coach of the Year award. It is to be acknowledged that the veteran Scottish golfer had captained the European golf team at the Celtic Manor in the
prestigious Ryder Cup and under his captaincy the European team outclassed the American golf team to clinch the Ryder Cup trophy.
Colin Montgomerie was nominated for the award alongside the boss of the Blackpool football team Ian Holloway and the coach of the English national cricket team Andy Flower. But it was Montgomerie’s day who beat Holloway and Flower to snatch the trophy of
the Sports Personality Coach of the Year.
The role of Montgomerie in the Ryder Cup was highly appreciated by the sporting critics of the world. At one stage the European golf team was losing the event over the points table but it was Colin Montgomerie’s dedication and sheer attention which earned
the European team the marvelous title of the Ryder Cup.
After receiving the award Colin Montgomerie said,
"It is an honour again to be here again and receive this award on behalf of 12 fantastic players and coaches, who got us prepared just that bit better than the opposition,".
"It was a fantastic year for European golf, we've never been in ruder health, I'm privileged to be here to receive this on behalf of the European Tour." he added.
It was certainly a brilliant year for European golf and the Ryder Cup trophy is a vivid proof that the year belonged to the European Golfers. Moreover this year the English ace golfer Lee Westwood snatched the world number one rank from the American golfing
legend Tiger Woods.
The award has given a new inspiration to Colin Montgomerie and his performance this year is highly praised by many top golfers of the world. While talking about Montgomerie’s role in the Ryder Cup as the captain, the Irish ace golfer Graeme McDowell told
the media that Colin had done a fantastic job.
"He was amazing. He's everything that is the Ryder Cup and to be able to do that for him was very special," said McDowell.
