The European Ryder Cup team Captain Colin Montgomerie has made headlines yet again as he talked about Europe dominating Golf, his crash and his strategies in the Ryder Cup.
With Lee Westwood the number one player on the official world golf rankings, it is definitely the European golfers who are making news all over the world.
Colin had a very bad car accident a few weeks ago and was very fortunate to survive it. As he was interviewed by Telegraph Sport, he said that one sees an entire life flashing in front of the eyes during an accident like this. He was driving to Glasgow to
deliver some early Christmas presents to his father. The accident occurred when a van, whose driver had fallen asleep at the wheel, crashed into Monty’s BMW.
He said he was extremely lucky since the irresponsible driver fell asleep, came across the carriageway leaving him nowhere to go. Thanks to the eight air bags of his car, Colin was not seriously injured but had to be pulled out by witnesses of the accident.
His right hip was dislocated, due to which the golfer could not walk. The victorious captain hence had to do a lot of physiotherapy in order to get back into shape. He is still not one hundred percent but will soon be.
He wants to be in the top 50 by the end 0f 2012 and feels he has the ability, the drive and the talent to achieve that, despite being 49 years old.
Recently, Colin was very crucial to Golf Live 2011 and talked with golf fans about the amazing win at Celtic Manor in October this year. His most genius tactic, he said, was ordering 6ft long master beds for the player's rooms. According to him, it was this
beds that contributed a lot in putting the players in their playing mode and hence able to win the Ryder Cup.
Colin was especially glad at how much the Europeans have excelled in golf this year. “This is the strongest European golf’s ever been and that’s saying something after that fantastic era of Seve, Langer, Faldo, Woosnam and Lyle. But this is stronger and
we’re just beginning to prove it.”
With Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell winning major championships this year, and Westwood leading the rankings, the European golfers have achieved a lot in 2010. With 2011 around the corner, more success is expected from the Europeans.
