Colin Montgomerie worried about the leaks for the Ryder Cup
The Johnnie Walker championship will be ending this week on Sunday, after which Colin Montgomerie, the captain, will be announcing his team. According to latest reports, Montgomerie’s selection will not be revealed at any cost before time. The team selection under the current discussion is for the Ryder Cup 2010.
The Ryder Cup is due to be played from 27th Sep till the 3rd of October. Recently the Ryder Cup and its concerning security has been under discussion immensely. The European Tour is worried at a great level since they do not want any type of details to seep out.
As for those who do know the leaks, they have been warned. Montgomerie will be selecting a 12 player team in the Ryder Cup 2010. The type and nature of the warning issued to them however is still unknown with the limits defined, the charmed circle. Those who do know about the wild card picks are not supposed to discuss the names outside the known circle.
The team will be announced an hour after the Johnnie Walker Tournament on Sunday.
The European tour is concerned about the betting issue. They are aware of the looming matter and state that those who were involved in the team selection process are safeguarding the information with caution. They said that this not only relates to those who go down the ladder but it goes all the way up as well.
The hot favourites where most of the money is currently focused on are Paul Casey, Harrington, Justin Rose and Luke Donald. These players are recently playing for The Barclays Cup as well with positions for the automatic places.
Ian Woonsman had been in the same situation in the year 2006. He knew there was a lot of money involved whilst betting. However the situation was handled with great calm and kept a low profile for the while. 2006 was drowned in accusations which involved mishandling of the information.
George O’Grady contacted the bookmakers when Europe’s Captain’s selection was leaked. Montgomerie had faced a surprise selection as the Captain for the Ryder Cup. The chief executive’s contact proved that the hush-hush had not worked.
According to the chief executive, what affects the golf’s repute, concerns everyone involved form the tour. According to O’Grady, these rumours must be held in an efficient way since sorry is made only once. He added that they will not be letting anything like that ever happen again and the future will not hold such mistakes. Currently, Edoardo Molinari is also under the radar since he finished with a 70, two shots back.
With an opening round of 68, Simon Dyson has his chances up for the selection. With a four under par, he was left just 2 shots behind Richard Flinch. Now whenever one looks at the Tour officials, they turn and look at the bookmakers as well.
It is all about perception in the end said the company’s spokesperson. There are people with inside information and then those in the wider public. Determining your position is hard to do.
Many critics however also question about Betfair and its act of suspension. Betfair is an online betting exchange which states that it will suspend its operation at the final hole. Sporting index is also honing caution. The firm explained that they will be limiting the trade keeping a good check on the client’s account. In case of anything unusual the team will limit the trade by keeping a good check on the stakes.
Ross McGowan is also considered a good contender in the list. However he withdrew after his 77 due to his shoulder injury. His decision paved the way for Frencesco Molinari to appear at the Celtic Manor.
The battle for the tight spots continues and will be reaching its peak soon. Dyson as well as Quiros must win at any cost if they want to stand a chance for qualifying. There are currently 9 automatic places where wild card picks exiss making the Tour team more agitated by the minute.
