Colin the whale? what are your views and opinions?

i know everyone is in uproar about colin the humpback whale, but why does everyone keep treating him like it's jj. jj's diet is easier to make up because he doesn't need krill. where as RUDD has already said it would cost thousands to feed baby colin. because he needs krill in his milk. maybe if colin was in america they would've done something but RUDD is our government and all he cares about is his pocket. i think this is ridiculous as he did not even try. his solution is put it down. how is this different to letting the japanese whale them. what are you views and what do you think should of been done.

**** me, we can send men to the moon but we couldn't save a baby whale? Shame on Australia. Maybe if there was a gold medal up for grabs we would have tried harder.

What's the point of fighting to stop killing the whales in other countries if we are happy to kill them here in Australia? Of all the resources we have at hand in today's society we could not relocate and save this poor creature. Marine biologists and other associated workers on this case, hang your heads in shame because you've got blood on your hands. Do us all a favour - reconsider your careers!

Once again bureaucratic bullshit has got in the way of saving an animal. We have been watching this whale for the past week get weaker and weaker and yet nothing was done to help Colin. I'm deeply saddened and disgusted. Aussie spirit dies here.

This was a matter of 'we can't be ****** feeding something so big so lets kill it'. That was the easy option. What a bunch of soft c***s. Colin was asking for help and we failed him.

They couldn't help Colin live but were more than willing to help her die. Where is humanity? I've lost all faith in politicians, animal rights activists, so called 'veterinarians' and in particular NPWS. Shame on you all!

And on a last note - the bloke that did the lethal injection, just remember what comes around goes around. I hope you rot in h**l!

It's a stupid whale, who cares? Cure cancer or something instead of spending all of your money on keeping a stupid whale alive.

There was nothing anybody could do. Granted they saved a whale at Seaworld in the US, but the Gold Coast Seaworld does not have the facilities and the whale was not healthy enough to have survived the trip even if it was possible. In the US,it took an 11 million litre pool that had to be emptied 30% per day and refilled, due to waste from the animal. And a 24-hour staff of 30 people to manage the process. And... apparently the success rate is 2-3%. So it would be bad judgment to attempt it based on those stats.

Are you sure it was Rudd that decided to have him put down rather than a group of vets, wildlife officers and other experts.

Keeping an animal that size that requires a specialised diet would be no easy matter and I think euthanizing him was the most humane and practical solution.

People are so upset because the media unnecessarily carried on and on about it.

One day and maybe in my lifetime (I'm almost 60), we will go the way of the Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) where the last whale will be put down because someone got lazy and put it in the "too hard basket".So it costs money to feed him? We already waste heaps of money paying the dipsticks in Canberra who can't or won't make a decision. For goodness sake Rudd is the PM, he has the ability and the power to over-ride any decision but I think you have to have some backbone for that, and that he is sorely lacking.

The hump back is on a doom trail, with the Japanese stating they will kill Humpbacks if they don't get their way with the Micky whale. Talk about a bunch of cry babies who can't get their own way.

If they do that, the Whale Watching coasts will be in vain.

A beautiful mammal put down because of incompetent morons.

As above I too do not hold the views the 2 have said. People with that mentality will be the ones that will aid in the destruction of the animals/mammals on this planet.

My mother once said to me...."If you can not love and care for an animal, then you will never have the capacity to care for another human being". How right she was!

baby whale lost at sea

a promise of waves caressing, of sea-green foam

and joyful frolics not to be...

To be or not to be?

we asked ourselves, and, groping in the dark, we clumsily decided.

The sensation of water enveloping you ceased.

And only your memory remains little whale.

We shed seawater tears for you.

I loved colin the whale as a lot of people did I hate the remarks by the 2 above Me hence I gave them the boot LOVE COLINS FRIEND X X X

I hope he is resting now in a happy whale hunting ground some where out at sea I have shed so many tears.
