Colin worried over the Sunday night
Monty is back on the course of Gleneagles for the Johnnie walker championship which is the penultimate event of the season and despite being the captain of the European team he posted a terrible score of 71.
We are talking about the captain who is responsible for the selection of the Ryder cup team; Colin Montgomerie who continues to give a terrible performance at the course which is considered as one of the easiest courses of the world! Although, he has shown a little improvement from his last week’s finish of eighteen over at the USPGA championship but the guy cannot be held responsible for his poor shots as his mind is preoccupied somewhere in the constant shuffling of the European point list.
Colin Montgomerie appeared very tired at the Whistling Straits where the USPGA championship was in progress and moreover speculation started building up that Monty will not be able to win at the Celtic Manor with this kind of energy. The reason for the deteriorating energy is the constant stress of the Sunday night which is proceeding near and near. Monty is going to disclose the wild card picks and is worried that there might be violent reaction from the players and Monty does not want any hard feelings. Going into the past, just few days before the 2006 event, Ian Woosnam the captain of the team gathered his team and asked them if he had their back after facing the criticism from Thomas Bjorn. Thomas criticized the captain after Dane was not selected as a wild card.
However at the same time Colin Montgomerie is a bit relaxed after Graeme McDowell went to him personally and assured him his back. This goes for the other players as well who have assured Monty that they will adhere to the decision of the captain. As for the media, Colin says that the local radio stations and the news agencies have supported him as well and he is thankful to the entire media fraternity. Seems like one issue is solved for the captain.
Moving to the other problem which is linked with his personal life, Colin Montgomerie was stuck with the same problem that Tiger Woods was facing as he was cheating his wife with his ex-girlfriend. The news broke in media and the 47-year-old stood in front of the press and his wife Gaynor apologizing for his actions but unlike Elin, Gaynor a millionaire widower forgave Monty and ended the scandal. Although the issue was apparently solved but the side effects of the dirty game do not seem to wear away therefore Monty is worried as he does not want any dirty media news before the Ryder cup.
Moving forward, Simon Dyson performed quite satisfactory at the junction of Johnnie walker championship and he posted a score of 4 under. Although the player started out fine but down the lane he lost his pace and posted two bogeys in the back nine, however he wrapped the round with a representable score. Earlier in the day the player was very nervous as he saw Ross McGowan pack his bag and make his way out of the qualifying team. Ross posted a score of 77 and took a withdrawal after experiencing a severe pain in his shoulder. If this was a threatening factor for the player then Jimenez posting a 70 acted like a sigh of relief for Dyson. Simon Dyson would have been out of the race to the top if Jimenez had finished in the top 25 but so far the Spaniard is out of the Top twenty five and Simon has nothing to worry about.
To give a quick recap, Colin Montgomerie posted a score of 71 at the Johnnie Walker championship but for now his score is not important, what really counts is his decision of picking up the right player for the team.
