Question:

Collar/leash training problems!?

I put the collar on him and he's fine...I put the leash on him and he doesn't follow me like people have said. He just sits there and refuses to move. Any ideas?

I just go him like 3 days ago, and he is a 4 month old male yorkie.

  1. Try a harness instead of a collar.

  2. Just be patient.  He's never been on a leash before so doesn't know he's supposed to follow.  Pick him up with his leash and collar on, take him outside, and follow HIM around on the leash while he snuffles around.  You can call him to you and invite play and petting, give him a treat, and generally make being on a leash fun, but not a giant huge deal.

    Patience.

  3. Try to act really excited like yall are about to run and play.

  4. Use a harness on him until he is older.  Yorkies necks are very fragile.  When he has his leash on him bribe him with treats.  Gradually diminish the treats.
