Question:

Collecting MLB Jerseys??

I am a baseball fan and thinking about collecting various jerseys of different players and teams. Are there any particular rules to follow when collecting jerseys?

I'm a Pirates fan and there are obviously jerseys I would NEVER purchase (Reds, Cubs, Yankees). Does not buying hated teams jerseys apply when collecting? Thanks for your help.

  1. When you get to the Twins Jersey..you should get Joe Mauer!

  2. Josh Hamilton or Ian Kinsler. :]

  3. I'v never heard of rules when it comes to collecting.  If I were you though I would collect even the ones you don't want to purchase.  That to me is part of collecting.  How could you not want a Johnny Bench or Pete Rose jersery, or a Ryne Sandberg or Ernie Banks jersey?  Go old school if you don't like a team at least then you can say that the guy is a hall of famer.

  4. Heck, I collect authentic, licensed MLB jerseys based on favorite players, teams and All Star Games.  These are the ones I collect and wear proudly, even though I'm a SF Giants fan!

Barry Bonds 2003 All Star Game HR Derby Jersey - black with patches signifying the AS game in Chicago at Comiskey Park.

Barry Bonds black SF Giants alternate home jersey.

Michael Jordan black White Sox #45 jersey.

Albert Pujols red Cardinals batting practice jersey.

Ken Griffey #30 Reds pinstripe sleeveless jersey.

SF Giants gray "away" jersey personalized with my last name.

Oakland A's green batting practice jersey personalized with my last name.

There's no set rule about what to collect, but if you have favorite players, favorite colors, favorite teams, All Star Game jerseys or significant legend's jerseys, the sky's the limit!  Good luck with your hobby!

  5. Get a big puma (Lance berkman) jersy!

  6. Just collect any jerseys you want, since it's your collection. You should definately get Jason Bay's Red Sox jersey though if you don't have one of him yet! He rocks!

  7. I don't know about rules, but here's some things to think about:

    Replica or authentic jerseys?

Game worn jerseys or just those available on the street?

    Autographed jerseys or not?

Current jerseys or vintage ones?  If vintage ones, currently manufactured ones or just the old ones?

Ones with players names or just plain ones?

What teams?  Home, road, alternate jerseys?

My goal is to collect all 26 teams (not the 30 current ones) that were around when I was growing up (I have 50 MLB jerseys from 24 teams).  I'm a Dodgers and Angels fan, but I have jerseys of my hated teams (Yankees, Braves, Padres - but not the Giants as of yet), but I'd never wear those around.

  8. Nah... You should collect one from each team. Once you have all 30, you do it again

  9. Rules? Never heard of 'em... Im mostly a soccer fan. Good luck with your collections!

  10. hey man whats up. Yah collecting jerseys is a cool thing remember i have a tim lincecum jersey just because he is a great player and i like how he pitches i have his jersey. I have a konerko jersey and i want to get a manny ramirez jersey because i like the dogder blue. Dude collect any jerseys you want my next jersey is probably going to be a mets jersey. Collecting jersey is actually a great thing to do because it shows how much of a baseball fan you are.
