Collecting funds for secret santa?

Question

My daughter (12) for the past 3 years has collected change and held little fundraisers so that she can shop for local children at Christmas. Once she pulled names off a local tree and last year she came across a family that was going through a rough time. This year she has a family of 3 kids that lost their mother and would like to again be a secret Santa to make their Christmas a little brighter. Is it illegal for her to do this? I have had one family member complain about this and I don't want to not support my daughter for what I think is a gret thing. Please send all your expertise this way!! Thanks

Aww..   she sounds like a great girl and you must done a wonderful job raising her.  Why would it be illegal for her to buy things for someone in need.  I never heard of that before.  Alot of people does it, and sometimes thats the best part about Christmas, is helping people when in need.  It makes you happier just doing something like that just knowing you are helping someone who really needs it..  and like that one girl said.. it sounds like someone is jealous of your daughter.

Your daughter is doing a good thing.  If she wants to take it a step further, have her ask the PTA at her school to start a gift basket brigade!  The school picks families that are in need (of course its anonymous), school families donate toys and food and they are delivered the first week of December.  We do this at my daughters school.  If she is interested, email me and I can give you more details.

I think what your daughter is doing is wonderful. If someone doesn't want to participate, then they don't have to. Our church always sends card out for things to buy for families in need. I don't think it is illegal.

why on earth would a person complain about your daughter helping out others? Sounds like someone is jealous of your wonderful child. Support your child and tell her to keep up the great work
