Question:

Collecting my first pair of glasses today?

I am picking up my first pair of glasses today. I was told this is a strong first prescription.

- does it mean I will need to wear them all the time?

- is it usual that the eyes have different powers?

The prescription on the paper he gave me says

-2.50 x -0.50

-2

I am looking forward to the improvement in my vision. What I saw through the lenses was amazing.

  1. Ask Your optintion for a reccomendation x

  2. your prescription is similar to mine at the age of 24 i have needed glasses since the age of 11 and over 13 year they got steadily worse

eyesight is dicated by the strength and control of the lense of the eye and length of the eyeball (as a sharp image requires the focused image from the lense fallin on the back of the eye the retina)

shortsightness is caused by a strong or a an eye ball that is too long

longsightness is a result of a weak lense or a eyeball that is too short

your eye condition depends on age, genes, medical condition etc....

glasses are in fashion anyway so dont worry about it

  3. That is a good Rx..bad enough that you would fail a drivers test without them.  You will definitely need to wear them all the time, and depending on your age, they may get worse.

  4. Yes, you probably will need to wear glasses all the time, but it will be worth it when your vision improves. If you feel uncomfortable wearing glasses, try to pick out some great frames, or consider using contact lenses.

  5. For anything above -1 --> -1.50 in my opinion, your glasses will be on full-time.  One eye is can weaker than the other -- I believe my right eye is about 0.50 weaker than my left eye but it varies from person to person.

Make sure you don't strain your eyes too much.  Look away from what you're reading in a book or screen every 15 minutes or so and just close your eyes -- it's supposed to help to slow down the prescription of your eyes.

    Enjoy!

  6. You have to ask your optimistrist about the questions, they're the experts!

Im short sighted and as soon as i saw through my lenses, i thought, wow.. If only my sight was perfect without the aids of them ;)

  7. I hope you get better vision with them, good luck.

  8. Only your doctor will be able to tell you how often you need to wear your glasses.  When you go in, if you are still unsure of how much you need to wear them, just ask.

No, it is not unusual to have different prescriptions in each eye.  Mine are the same way.

  9. welcome to the specky world --it's really not that bad !

  10. It is up to you whether you want to wear your glasses all the time.  Your prescription is in the mid to upper range of a mild prescription for myopia (nearsightedness).  It is only strong for a first prescription, but not overall.

I suggest that you wear them full time for the first few days after you get them so you can eyes and brain can adapt to wearing glasses.

If you feel comfortable wearing glasses all the time, then do so.  If you do not, then wear them when good distance vision is required - e.g. driving, movies, concerts, etc...  The choice is yours.

It is normal for people to have different prescriptions in each eye.  Most people I know have about .25 diopters difference between each eye.   My prescription is a little off from the norm.  The prescription in my left eye is PL -.1.5 X 60 and my right eye has no prescription because its vision is normal.
