I have to visit the US Consulate in Vancouver for my H1 Visa interview on a Monday. On Tuesday (next day), I should be collecting my visa stamped passport from the Consulate. What's the earliest time I can collect the passport on Tuesday. I need to fly to Montreal on Tuesday and the last flight to Montreal leaves Vanncouver at 4:50PM.

  1. Vancouver requires two days' processing time AFTER the visa interview.  The likelihood that they will be able to shorten that for you is extremely slim.  Here is the source:

Never make departure plans before you have your visa in hand.  Anything can happen, including but not limited to a computer breakdown, embassy closings due to bomb threats or actual bombings, something wrong with your documentation, and/or a security 'hit' for a name identical to yours.

The site says that all visa services require appointments.  I think that this isn't true for simply picking up a document.

You should probably call, but I expect that if you tell them at your interview that you have to leave the next day they will either put a rush on the document for you (they shouldn't have a problem doing this unless the databases are clogged) or offer to send it via insured shipping to you.  Definitely make sure you have alternative valid ID for the flight, just in case, and definitely take the latest flight possible.

At your interview, be sure to keep your answers concise and to the point.  Make sure you tell them things that suggest you are a good candidate for the visa.
