First semester of my junior year I got D in Statistics.

The next semester I managed to get a B.

This fall I am retaking the first semester of Statistics.

Am I ineligible for UCI ?

My sophomore and junior GPA is not very strong.

It's around 3.3~3.5

but I always got better grades the second semester.

for example

From fall semester to spring semester

my GPA went up...

Academic non-weighted: +.85 improvement

Academic weighted: +.80 improvement

all non-weighted: +.75 improvement

all weighted: +.66 improvement

I am taking my SATS this fall. I'm studying on my own from a book.

I have a lot of extra curricular activities!!

OH. and I'm planning to audition for the dance department of UCI.

I know that now it really depends on my SAT scores and my admission essay.

But say, do I have any chance? will the D hold me back?

thanks so mucho.

i sincerely appreciate it. :D

  1. The D will not hold you back unless you looking into top tier schools as in an IVY or other schools whos students gpa are close to 4.0.

With your GPA though you should have no problem getting into the majority of state schools especially with a lot of curricular activities. As long as your SAT is around the 1200's (or 1800's if you go by new ranking) then once again any state school will be your pick and most non-ivy state schools.

I'm not saying you can't get into an IVY however it would be very very unlikley with that GPA ect. Still basically anything non IVY is within your reach! So study hard for the SAT's and try to score above the average for the school you want heh.

If UCI is the college that you want then your right on the brink with your GPA of the average students. If you can get your SAT HIGHER than their average students and show yourself especially in extra-curriculars ect since your GPA is weak-point that would be ok. Colleges look for a variety of different students. While the majorty of the GPA in top schools is very close to each other usually not too far from 4.0 this doesn't mean they don't like to accept students who show exceptional leadership/achievments/ect with a GPA on the low side. Keep your sights set high and work hard to make those SAT's better than those with a GPA higher than you to show UCI that you can excel just as well as everyone else if not better. Good luck
