Question:

College Apps?! Please help! (for 10 points)?

I'm in the middle of the whole college application process and I'm sure you all know of the common app. Since all the schools I am applying to require a supplement (UPenn/Columbia/Harvard/NYU/BU), I've decided it was simply easier to apply to each school individually without the common app because it would be the same number of essays minus the 2 from the common app (this was also advised by my counselors). But I've been to their websites and all I've found (except for NYU) is "Common App with Supplement". Shouldn't every school have their own separate application? Or is it that some schools ONLY take the common app w/ supplement. But it doesn't seem to make sense that these top schools wouldn't have their own distinctive applications. Please let me know what's going on. and any college advice is much appreciated!

  1. I never used the common app...but as far as advice for college:

Take every class serious, Don't let your GPA drop, Be involved with academic groups, Always network...and don't forget to have fun! College is not hard, you just have to stay focused and organized.

  2. I agree with you, that is very strange. More likely than not, you are just missing the link on the page. Or, it could be that online submission are only in the common app form. I would talk to your college adviser. At my school, the office was called the college cubby. Or you might want to contact the schools and find out about the application process. It never hurts to ask, and they usually always have someone who will very enthusiastically talk about their school's process, especially if you are an excellent candidate.

After checking out the website, it looks like the common app is for online applicants. However, there is a way to print an application or to request one, if you want to fill it out on paper.

    Good luck!
