College: Area of California with an open choice for colleges?

I'm looking for some place in California where there are lots of colleges to choose from; major in Journalism and minor in English -- do you have any suggestions for cities or towns in CA where there is a variety of colleges to pick from?

There are a decent number of colleges in San Francisco and in Los Angeles.

Bay Area and L.A. are good places to start. Bay Area has Stanford, Berkeley, SFSU, SJSU, CSU Fremont, University of Santa Clara, UC Davis is nearby, and many more. Just go to an area with a large population.

Just look at the UC's.

Pretty much all of them besides Merced and Riverside. Their major selection is not that broad. Look at UCLA, Berkeley, UCSB, UCSD, UCI, UCD, UCSC.
