College Dorm Question? Please any advice.

Simple Question but please think before you answer.

At my university, they are dorming 3 to a room, or in other words tripling a room meant for doubles. (I dont think it will be too bad.) If any of you who answer have been put through this please explain your experiences.

Heres my question: I believe they have one bunk bed and a single bed. I was thinking and if god willing, that im the first in the room, which bed i should take??????

Heres what i was thinking: Should I take the top bunk because maybe i could somehow use the wall to store things (temp. shelves or something) if any of you have done this please let me know exactly what you did??? Or if i have a choice should i def. take the single bed???? and scratch the top bunk idea.

If anyone has a good idea for storage of the bottom bunk, shelves, etc. please let me know??? I do not know if can do the bottom bunk though bc i have this fear of the top bunk falling ontop of me at night. haha.

Thank You for all your help. 10 pts to best answer.

  1. take the single bed for sure.  bunks suck.  but yeah make sure you get there first!!!

  2. 1st choice: Single bed

    2nd lower bunk bed

    3rd upper bunk bed

Definitely take the single bed if given the chance.  You can store your belonging under and you don't have to climb up and down in the middle of the night.

Now, it would help to know your gender.   Girls get petty on this stuff, and I speak from personal dorm room experience.  If you are a girl, don't do the first come first serve technique...wait until everyone arrives, talk about it or draw straws.  I still remember my first college roommate demanding the bed away from the window, because of how the light bothered her in the morning.   Guys don't care as much, first come, first serve.

But there are other things to consider beside the bed.  Noise!!!  How thin are the walls?   Where will the TV and radio be?  Can you see them from your bed?  Computers??  If you have a lap top, you will probably work from your bed a lot, it might be nice not to have to climb out of a bunk bed to go to the printer etc...   Many dorms have rules about what you can hang on the walls in terms for shelving, another reason to stay away from the upper bunk.

One storage idea are the space safer vacuum bags to shrink down your clothing and bedding.  They can fit under your bed, or the hanging ones are good for clothes.   I lived at Target while in college for organization stuff.
