So i have some questions about college dorm rooms. What are the Pros & Cons of having a roommate? And is their usually a bathroom in the room? Can you share with the same s*x? Like i am a girl and i want a girl i would prefer not to share with a guy. How much does it cost a month for a dorm room? And you are your roommate split the cost right? And do you usually hang out with your roommate? Like go out to dinner or just go out with friends and have fun? Thanks everyone :)

  1. Dorm rooms are almost always shared with a roommate of the same s*x.  Bathrooms are usually down the hall and shared with others of the same s*x.  Some places have bathrooms that are shared by both sexes, but not many.  Costs vary enormously from college to college.  Check their web site.  Each student is billed individually.  The prices shown are for just you, they're not shared with your roommate.  Many roommates hang out, but not all.  Make an effort to befriend your roommate, but don't depend on it too much.  Make other friends.

  2. if you live on campus your room is included in your tuition fee.

some schools have en suite bathrooms, but usually you have share with other people. usually there are single s*x bathrooms.

and every school has you live with same s*x room mates but at some schools you can request otherwise. but thats only at like 3 schools.

and depends on if you have a room mate you like. i have had 3 room mates and ive been at school for 3 years. my first room mate was awful she was a beast. belching and coming home really late and relly drunk.

my next room mate was awesome. we had so much fun

and my last room mate was awful, 1st semester she had this boyfriend who was super ugly who was always in our room and i was never there. but when i was they were there and i never had time to myself. and then second semester they broke up and she was miserable and never left til i flipped out on her that she was driving me nuts and i needed time to myself but i never got it because she was always there!

I'm a junior in high school, but know many people who have/ is living in a dorm. Most dorms only allow same gender to be roomates, although if you have a suite room ( share bathrooms with another dorm) in some cases you can request the opposite gender... but it's sorta rare. You have many options of roomates... as if you want one, two, or even three. Anymore than that then your most likely to stay in a greek house. I wouldn't depend on it much to be best buds with your roomate(s) although I wouldn't rule the chance out either. I have met many people who get along great with their roomate(s) and hang out etc... but I also have met some who didn't get along with them and switch.... or just basically didn't talk to each other much, which may be strange.

  4. I lived in a suite style room my freshman year of college. So it wasn't just one room, it was more like there are three bedrooms, with two people in each, and they were all connected by a living room, which all 6 people shared. There was only one bathroom so all 6 shared that as well. But my friends that lived in the normal style dorm rooms had to share a bathroom with pretty much the whole floor. And they said it was NASTY.

I doubt your school is gonna be liberal enough to give you a roomate of the opposite s*x, so yes you will get a girl roommate. As for the cost, sorry IDK that one, it was just part of the tuition for me.

And yeah, when you first get there, your roommate is likely gonna be your first friend. So you guys are gonna be going to dinner and stuff together, but after a while you will both make new friends and you might want to share a room with someone else in the upcoming semester. That's what happened to me. I was still friends with my roommate from freshman year, but once I moved out of the dorm and into a frat house, we no longer hung out as much.

  5. Pros of having a roommate:  Having someone to share the cost of the room (cost is less for each person sharing a double room than for a single room), having someone to talk through any problems with, and potentially having a new close friend.

Cons of having a roommate:  Living with a stranger can be difficult if there are personality clashes (e.g., a neat freak living with a slob, or a very conservative person living with a very liberal person).  If you need absolute quiet to study, that can be more difficult with a roommate.

Many colleges ONLY permit same s*x students to share a room.  Some now allow roommates of the opposite s*x to room together, but even those colleges would honor your request for a same-s*x roommate.

Costs depend on the dorm, whether it's a single room or a double, and what college you go to.  You'd have to check with your specific college for that information.  Whether or not you have a private bathroom or a community bathroom varies by dorm, too.  At the university at which I work, some dorms have community bathrooms only, others have some floors with community bathrooms and some where double and single rooms have their own bathrooms.  It just depends.

Many people make life-long friends with a college roommate and do hang around with them.  Others don't.  It largely depends upon whether you are matched up with someone who is very compatible with you.
