Question:

College Dorm opinion?

Ok,

I move in on the 21st of August. I've never shared a room with anyone as I've never had any brothers or sisters. Some dorms have bunks and mine probably will. I'll get there 10 days anyone else is allowed to move in, because marching band starts early. Assuming I am not rooming with another marching band member, I'm going to have the room to myself for over a week before she moves in.

Opinion Questions:

1. If you HAD to live in a room with a bunk would you be happier on the top or the bottom? Why?

2. If it's possible to separate a bunk (which I know most you can), would you recommend doing so in a dorm?

3. Any other suggestions or advice for me?

  1. okay, first if you can debunk (and there's room) do it, and put the beds up as high as you can so you can store things under the bed...dorms are small, you'll need storage space. if you cant debunk, take the top *if you are on the bottom you can still hit ur head on the top bunk*...on the bottom it feels like you are crammed in a hole in the wall...(and im too cholostrophobic for that).  if you are there for 10 days alone, try them both and then pick the one you like best.  oh and here's a decorating tip...you cant paint on the walls, leaving them pretty bare and boring, so buy some border and thumb tack it to the walls.  :) hope i helped.

  2. Sleeping on the bottom would be best for me because some bunks, it is hard to make your bed on the top and more of a hastle to get up and down there in the middle of the night. But, on the reverse side, if you don't want people crawling across your bed (which they may not), then it may be easier for you to sleep on the top. It doesnt really matter, both have pros and cons. Its up to you.

If you can separate the bunks, I will advise you not to do so because dorms are always small and separating the bunks will just cramp up your stuff and take up too much space. And you need all the space you can get!!!!

Heres some more advice: Bring extra hangers, a desk lamp, a spare desk lamp and batteries! I stayed in a dorm where the lights didnt work very good and if this happens to you, youll thank me when you have the desk lamp.

But this is all up to you, thats just my opinion. Good luck with college!

  3. Top Bunk (if the height doesn't bother you) -- Nothing like having someone climb up and down while you are trying to sleep.  Also being on top, you won't have a noisy sleeper above you rolling over, snoring, etc.  You will have the mattress to block the lower sleeper's noise.

If you can debunk, try to find a way to raise you bed up like a loft so that you can put your desk and work area underneath.  I did this in college and it felt like an office.  Nice to claim a little space in the room besides just your bed.

  4. Bottom, you don't hit your head on the ceiling.

  5. 1.) That depends on if you are a messy person or your roommate.  If you are, you can have your things on the bed without having guests see them.

2.) It depends on how small your room is.  If you have enough space, you should, but if not, then leave it.
