College EMA.....Declined !?!?! ?

Hey, Apparently I'm not allowed any E.M.A money because my parents earn over 31k a year between them, how stupid is this?

I don't get any money off my parents, I have to earn it myself...so why the h**l aren't I allowed any EMA?

...I have to pay rent to my parents, cook my own food, clean my own clothes... clean everything up..do the dishes etc etc

...and ontop of it still do chores for them. I practically run this household.....!!

Also, I'm sure alot of people use their EMA to buy weed, alcohol and various other useless things in college, where I actually need it for driving lessons and to buy stuff for my current course...

This really annoys me... Any one else in the same situation? :(

  1. Hello

I am not in the same situation when it comes to family income but am for the rest. The best thing I can suggest is calling the following number 0800 121 8989, and explaining your situation. Another suggestion is getting emancipated because you will also find this a major problem when applying for student loans, accounts and any bursaries. You will get declined.

Also I think it is very presumptuous and stereotypical of you to assume that people, who are granted EMA due to financial circumstances, will use their allowance “to buy weed, alcohol and various other useless things in college”. Hopefully college will teach you about labelling.

  2. My mum is a single parent working as many hours as she can and still manages to look after her baby, and my sister and me. It's not my fault she cant afford to pay for all my college stuff and my EMA will be a good help, as im going to need to buy books, stationary, uniform etc. for my college course.

If you have a problem with your money situation at the moment, talk to your parents, im sure they will understand and help you out.

  3. yep in the same situation..but not quite so bad

i get a SMALL amount of money frm my parents but i have to earn the reest and do everything around the house even though i have 2 older brothers who dont have 2 do anything..they actually tell me 2 do stuff for them!!

    it really sucks

    grr :@

    xo

  4. EMA is for poor people im afraid though,  iff your family is earning atleast 31.000 a year then your well done off and have no money problems unlike others who come from the poorer familys who cant afford the bus.  Or to buy there food and drinks for lunch.

  5. why are you asking this again?

You are a spoilt brat with rich parents. Stop whining and get a job.

  6. EMA is a system designed to get people from poorer families to college. That's why it is means tested. You can spend EMA on absolutely anything you want, it's sort of a small wage, an incentive to attend college. So if people want to get drunk and buy useless stuff that is their right. When I went to college there was no such thing as EMA and came from a family that couldn't afford to give me the money I needed and I looked after myself at home and helped my mum with bills etc I did this by getting a part time job!! Your grown up now, nothing is fair. That's life sorry x x

  7. When I was at college EMA was only for the poor kids that lived on the other side of town.

If you can't get money from your parents then get a job waiting tables, I did this after college and the wages and the tips I made really helped me out, much better paid than working in a shop.

  8. EMA is just to get poorer kids into college.
