Where can I go to get grants (that do not have to be paid back) I have the HOPE scholarship (it is a big scholarship in GA) but I need help sometimes with living expenses and book expenses. Scholarships would help out a lot too!

  1. www.fafsa.ed.gov

you have to fill out the form asap...you will need ur and ur parents income tax information for last year...and once finished with this, your will get an EFC (estimated family contribution) and if that number is low... and if your schools has enough funds left over (which they should) they will send you an award letter...which will have the $$ the school is offering you...you can take it or not thats up to you.

  2. Try fastweb.com and other companies websites.

  3. Grants and scholarships are the way to go if you can get them. There's definitely a lot of free monies out there, but you need to do your homework. It usually takes extra paper work and time, but it's worth it. A friend of mine had a lot of success with this website. Give it a try:

  4. STEP 1:

The first thing to do is to apply for FAFSA. This is a federal grant (aka Pell Grant). You can do this for free online...anytime. Here is the info.

    A. FAFSA Application

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form used by virtually all two and four-year colleges, universities and career schools for the awarding of federal student aid and most state and college aid.

For the 2007-2008 school year, you can apply for federal student aid by:

    Applying online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or

    Completing the paper FAFSA .

For the 2008-2009 school year, you can apply for federal student aid by:

    Applying online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or

Complete a PDF FAFSA (Note: PDF FAFSA must be mailed for processing) or

Request a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243), 1-319-337-5665 or 1-800-730-8913 (TTY users).

Deadlines: For the 2007-2008 school year, submit your application as early as possible, but no earlier than January 1, 2007. We must have your application no later than June 30, 2008. Your college must have your correct, complete information by your last day of enrollment in the 2007-2008 school year.

For the 2008-2009 school year, submit your application as early as possible, but no earlier than January 1, 2008. We must have your application no later than June 30, 2009. Your college must have your correct, complete information by your last day of enrollment in the 2008-2009 school year.

    *renew each year*

    STEP 2:

The FAFSA application is for a PELL GRANT (federal grant). Your second step is to apply for a STATE GRANT. Since you mention GA, I am assuming you are in GEORGIA. You can go to their website. It's:

    http://www.gsfc.org/gsfcnew/index.cfm

    for information in state grants.

The specific site for state grants based on financial aid is:

    http://gacollege411.org/FinAid/Scholarsh...

    For other grants, go to:

    http://gacollege411.org/FinAid/Scholarsh...

    STEP 3:

They also provide information on scholarships:

    http://gacollege411.org/FinAid/Scholarsh...

    These are merit scholarships.

For addition information on scholarship, I would recommend to go to the financial aid office @ your school. They usually have a database of school and private scholarships availabe. Take advantage of these. At my school, I heard of a girl who took advantage of the scholarship (and NO ONE applied!) and she got like 10!

    Hope this info helps!!!!

    :)

    ONE MORE THING:

Don't apply for fastweb scholarships. The chances of getting one are so slim. I've been applying for years and nothing. They are a waste of time. Invest your time in the scholarship opportunities @ your school. This year alone, I received 2 scholarships! so it works...
