Currently I attend an advanced public high school which I quite honestly hate and have been accepted to attend a private high school this year, which I'd love to do. Here's the catch- if I attend the private Catholic school I will be unable to continue a language of any kind and I will be unable to take a science---this is grade 11 I'm going into. Because the public school was so advanced, the new school can't place me in their level spanish or chemistry. Does only 2 years of language and 3 years science look bad if I want to attend colleges such a Boston U., Boston C., Bowdoin??? What should I do? Try the new school or stay put where I am??????

  1. Look into taking AP/Honors classes/tests at the local community college if you want to keep your science and language skills sharp.  If you don't have a community college near you look into distance/web classes at close by colleges or even your destination colleges in Boston.

  2. Dear Mr. Sanders,

This is a matter of choices. One of the choices is to take an on line

accredited course that is transferable to the school of choice that will accept the class credits. If it is science or language courses what ever.

First make the decision as to the two schools and go from there. There are many extension university and high school courses `that are

available online. Search out what is out there and go for it. You have to take the time to seek out the courses you need and that can be transferred. Please contact at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Mr. Antonio Nugera at the below e-mail. Or if you prefer you can contact him by phone for advice that I am sure will answer all your pressing questions. He will guide you in the right direction.

    Best Wishes

  3. If you will be attending a private Catholic high school and are interested in attending a Catholic college like Boston College, then all you need to do is be one of the best students at that high school and take the hardest classes they offer. If you are interested in Boston College which is run by the Jesuits be sure to also look at Holy Cross which is 30 miles west of BC.  Holy Cross is also run by the Jesuits and is the oldest Catholic college in New England and is the top ranked Catholic liberal arts college in the country according to US News & World Report.

  4. firstly, I would stick it out. what is more important? two lousy years at a great school to get into a great college, or two years under-achieving at some stuffy private catholic school?  however, I know that BC is private and catholic, so I'm assuming if your intention is to get in there, going to the private catholic high school may help you.

  5. You should look up the colleges you are interested in to find out what the requirements are. Also have you asked other people, such as your parents, for advice?

But, what's more important, your education or your happiness? If you are really miserable at your school you should leave. I left my school and home schooled, even though I was worried how colleges would look at that. But everything worked out okay. I'm sure it will for you too!
