I have college hockey tryouts in about 2 weeks. What are the main things that they look for? What obstacles/drills do they do?

  1. All of that would depend on the Coach.

However, they're probalby looking for speed, and attention. Don't stickhandle with your head up, do the drills precisely, if you're stickhandling slow down a little and do it right.

They're also going to be looking for coachabilty- if the coach gives you advice, listen.

Just relax and do the drills like you normally would. If you're good enough you'll make it.

    And good luck!

  2. They look for hockey skills and do hockey drills. :)

  3. Depends on the coach / level.

I had a tryout at Universite du Quebec a Trois Rivieres in 1997, when they were among the top 4 college / university teams in Canada.

Same tryout as for any 18+ team for the most part ..

Skating drills, oddman rushes, passing/shooting, weight training.

Didn't make the team, but I guess I made a good impression because the coach + I remained on good terms and spoke often.

    You may know him ..

Eric Lavigne, he presently coaches the Foreurs de Val D'or (QMJHL)
