I want to go back to school for a degree in computers not sure what steps to take. I already enrolled, I just need to go in and take the placement test. However is it better to wait until January and fill out a FAFSA because it's too late now and that would mean I would pay for my books and other expenses right? I'm thinking of a community college because of gas prices and it's near my current job. Can anyone give me some ideas as to whats better? Also, I'm Latino can I still apply for scholarships or any programs that can help me with to pay for school. Thanks in advance.

  1. Hi!

While you're off-season for the FAFSA, you can defintely get a private loan to hold you over until next year. These can coveer books and expenses as well as tuition. If you want to see what's available to you, you could trying filling out the application on our site http://tuitionbids.com. Then, 6 different lenders will email you competitive bids on your loan. This should get you the best possible deal and help you pay for college until FAFSA season again.

Good luck to you! ~Lauren, TuitionBids.Com

  2. Are you going to be enrolled in Sept 2008 (Fall semester)??  If so, it is not too late to apply for federal funding through the FAFSA application.  Jan 2009 FAFSA application is for anyone attending in the 2009-10 year, not the 2008-09.

A community college is a great choice for getting started in school because it allows you to get a quality education without the overwhelming debt required for most to attended the bigger named schools.  This is how I financed my first two years of school and I had some great teachers.  I ended up going on to a larger 4 year school for my bachelors, graduating in the Information Technology field.  Go PC geeks!  lol

I would recommend using www.fastweb.com for scholarship searches, and finaid.org for financial aid resources, including scholarship information.  Being Latino may help with finding scholarships, but avoid any scams where they want you to pay for searches or charge you for guaranteed scholarships.

    Good luck!
