College Registation, who claims residency based on this scenario?

I registered for college last week. In filling out the form, it asked if I was a dependent or independent. I'm dependent. It asked information about who is claiming residency (for tuition purposes.) If I'm registering as dependent, who is the one that needs to claim residency, myself or my parent/s?

Wouldn't it be the same thing? If you've lived somewhere else for over a year and it's where your school is, claim that, but not if you are there only because of school.
