Question:

College & Sports...?

I would really like to get into an Ivy-League college or any really prestigious college for that matter. I plan to take many AP and Honors classes, be involved in many clubs (including Model UN, National Honor Society, Mathletes, maybe a Science-related club, the Key Club, I'll be active in my school's newspaper club, etc.) However I'm missing a sport. I'm not athletic at all so I can't make any sports team that requires try-outs. To be quite honest, I'm not interested in sports anyway. I was hoping that being involved in my school's orchestra would make up for my lack of participation in sports.

So basically, my question is "Does the lack of participation in the athletic fields automatically decrease your chances of getting into an Ivy-League and/or prestigious college even if you have other extra curricular activities enlisted on your application?"

Thanks.

  1. Nope. Your heavy involvement in other areas will make you a very well-rounded applicant without the sports. Truthfully, you may even have too many clubs and organizations going on. Colleges prefer to see high involvement in a few key areas rather than some involvement in everything under the sun. Don't be afraid to narrow your interests so that you can do more with each group.
