Question:

College Transcripts Question...?

Here's my story: I hated high school, so I took as many classes as I could to graduate early, which I did, a semester early at least! lol Well once I was out I thought I'd get a head-start before everybody by enrolling in college. I applied for financial aid for full time for the year, was awarded it, and registered for 18 credit-hrs a semester! I even signed up for 3 during winter as well! (talk about ambitious right? but more like retarded...) Anyway, I dropped EVERY class. I just took a look at my unofficial transcripts a moment ago, and I was actually given 3 f's and the rest w's. I had just stopped going all together so I suppose it was up to the instructor whether or not to give a w or an f. Since then I have dropped about another 3 courses over the past year. So all in all I have 19 w's and 5 f's and 4 a's. How do I recover from this mess? I've grown up a lot since then and I know I can do well because I've gotten a's before. It all started when I was 18, I'm 24 now. When I want to transfer to a University, what are they going to look at? Are they going to see all of my s***w ups on my official transcripts do repeated courses wipe out an F? Is there anyway to wipe a W? Will they look at my GPA for each term? Because it's been as low as .50 for some terms, or do they just look at my cumulative gpa?

I need some help please....thank you! :)

  1. holy crappp .. seriously this is not a joke.

You are a freshman like me and obviously you dont know your limits..

it is sooooo much better to take 12 units or less and get As on them..

I was motivated too to finish all my GE and transfer to a university .. but i realized that I can succeed by taking fewer classes .. Offical transcipts are Final Transcripts..  But you Have to repeat the course.. that you earned an F in .. Ws are permanent..  how come you could drop the class earlier? you should try speaking w/ ur councilor..

    Good luck w/ that.

  2. Honestly, I almost don't know what to tell you.  I've never heard of anything such as this.

First off, those W's are going to follow you everywhere that you ever apply.  I have never dropped a course until last semester and my advisor told me that, that ONE W on my transcript could affect me in grad school acceptance.  Therefore, having 19!!!!!  OMG.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think that you have a real chance of getting into anywhere or bringing up a .5 GPA.

HOWEVER, you may have a chance to bring up the GPA IF you stay in college over 4 years.  The more classes you take and do well in, the higher the GPA is.  Therefore, if you stay in school a good 6 years....and just continue to take classes and get good grades, the GPA will eventually come up to a fairly high one.  However, you will never be able to enter into any great universities or grad schools with F's on your transcript.  Additionally, you will never be able to bring your GPA up as high as someone else could because you have F's pulling it down.  An F, believe it or not, KILLS your GPA....and that's just one!  5 does a number on it.

You need to speak to someone personally at a local community college and see what they suggest.  But, more than likely you will have to stay in school until you are 30 trying to bring up that GPA if you want to get into a grad school.  And never think that it's too late by then because most professors don't get their PhD or Masters until they are in their 30's.  So, you will be right on time!

As far as what will schools look at?  Schools are going to look at EVERYTHING....it doesn't matter what it is, if it is part of the transcript, then they will consider it in your acceptance.

And it isn't up to the professor to give you a W or F, at least at my school.  You can drop a class up until about a month before the semester is over WITH the option of dropping with a W (which is what I did) if you are passing the class.  As long as you are passing the class, then the professor is supposed to drop you with a W, not an F.  An F is only if you are already failing the class.  Because if you aren't failing a class, but must drop it, they cannot penalize you for doing well, but having to drop, hence why they give you a W.

Repeated courses, at my school, only wipe out the other grade if they are taken the following semester and you do better than the grade you previously made.  Therefore, if you are already out of school and not attending the same school in which you originally took the course, I do not believe repeating those courses will wipe out the F's.  Sorry.

    Hope some of this helps!
